February in Pictures
The months are whizzing past and here's what my February was all about!
The first Saturday of the month was spent watching and cheering on our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu team mates who were competing in the GTA No-Gi Competition. Not being a fan of No-Gi, I didn't compete though after watching our team fight so brilliantly, it sort of inspired me and I wished I did try it out anyway.
Chinese New Year this year fell on February 10th and this year's the Year of the Snake so I decided to draw a cute Chinese New Year snake. :)
Normally, my husband and I would spend Chinese New Year in Malaysia with my family. But this year we're going to be visiting Malaysia a little later in the year so we spent 2013 Chinese New Year with my in-laws. It was really fun and we started a few new family traditions like making Yee Sang/Yu Sheng
(generally a Malaysian and Singaporean tradition) and Tong Yuen (generally a Winter Solstice tradition). We even learnt up the things that had to be chanted while mixing up the Yee Sang, all of which were very typical things about making money and fortune ;p.
My mother-in-law and uncle-in-law decided to give me some much needed business help by sticking this sign on my workshop door. :) It's read "Sheng Yi Xing Long" and it means prosperity for business. I sure hope it works! :)
Chinese New Year isn't Chinese New Year without yummy cookies. In Malaysia, our house would be filled to the brim with homemade cookies, normally given as presents from relatives and friends. I really wanted to celebrate with some home made cookies so I managed to convince a few friends that we needed to make pineapple tarts. These turned out a lot better than I anticipated!
Valentine's Day came a few days later and it was a good time as I felt like making a picture using the clown characters in Matchmaker Millie. :) My husband and I celebrated by hugging each other to death in our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class. :p
Oh yeah, this is why I'm not a fan of No-Gi training. This strangely humid weather we've been getting have NOT helped one bit either.
This month, I also started offering Art Prints
in my Hooby Groovy shop and also on Etsy
. Don't forget there's also a sale
on now for the Autumn and Spring prints!
We started doing Friday night 100m sprints at the Melbourne University track. I hadn't done a sprint since high school half a lifetime ago. Our first session was a disaster! Well it was awesome in that we got through 10 sprints and we were all energised and motivated and making insane plans for the next week. Except we didn't plan on our bodies not liking us sprinting and my legs decided it would just not work for the next 2 weeks. It just seriously did not want to cooperate with me at all! We're starting to ease back into it and it's going a lot better and we're definitely paying more attention to warming up and stretching!
I made a new illustration, experimenting with a different aesthetic to my usual work.
And of course more doodles! May this year be filled with doodles. :)
